Our silence since our first post (8 months ago) has finally been broken! No, the 2-minute
video, and associated blog post "
We are amplified quantum fluctuations" is not what we have been working on this whole time. Several more substantial projects have been and continue to be in the works. In the meantime though, it occurred to me this past weekend that it would be fun and useful to experiment with producing videos that can be made in one day. What if we can inspire just as much curiosity, spark as much thought, communicate as much of the excitement we feel about science, by making videos that are much less time consuming to make? We aim to find out with an experiment. We are going to produce one video a day for three days in a row. We'll do the best we can in that amount of time. We just did one today (May 4th), so expect a post tomorrow (May 5th) and on May 6th too. Then we'll see how well we've done in terms of number of views and interaction on the blog.
In part, I've been inspired by this quotation from Plutarch I stumbled across a few days ago:
The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.
With our quickly-produced videos the goal is to create some sparks, rather than thoroughly explain and support an idea. If those sparks lead to comments/questions on our blog, we aim to kindle the growing fire with our responses.
